Nauvoo

My sister-in-law Caitlin came in from Arizona on Tuesday night. I was glad that she came, and I hope that she had a good time. On Wednesday we went to the Botanical Gardens. I had never been there before. It was fun, but I think I was expecting something different. We let Emma play in the water for a minute, and walked around and looked at the weird statues. Wednesday we went to the old courthouse downtown. It is where they held the trial for Dred Scott. Thursday we went to the Arch. She had a good time there. We couldn't go on the ferry boat though because the river was so flooded. Friday we went to the zoo and then shopping. Saturday was when we went to Nauvoo and Carthage. The weather was beautiful the whole entire time Catilin was here. Here is where we went:

We had a little trouble getting over the Mississippi to get into Illinois. We finally found a way through, but it was very scary this is what we saw out our windows. The water was right up to us on both sides.

Once we got across the river we went to Carthage. It was a wonderful experience to actually see first hand the jail that they kept Joseph Smith in. I would have enjoyed it more, but when you have a fussy baby and a two and a half year old you can't get picky. Here is a picture of us at the statue in front of Carthage Jail. The jail is right behind us.

After Carthage jail, we went into Nauvoo and ate lunch at a cute little cafe. We then went to the Nauvoo temple. It was very beautiful, and the view was great. Here is a picture

We then went to Pioneer pastimes and let Emma play some games. Then we went to the Tin shop, the Blacksmith shop, Scovil bakery, and the Brickyard. The blacksmith shop was cool, because they made Emma a little horseshoe, and they gave our rings to everyone. At the brickyard they give everyone a souvenir brick. Unfortunately we didn't have time for much else. There is so much more to see. Check out the website at historic Nauvoo. We are definitely going back to see more. It was a great experience, and I hope that my sister-in-law had fun, because we sure did. Thanks for coming Caitlin.
